Overview
The purpose of this memorandum is to evaluate four different possible hosts for my professional Web site. The hosts should include a paid Web host and any free Web hosts.
Host #1
I used Fortune City for my web page. It is a free site that gives you 25 megabytes (MB) of web space and 3 gigabytes (GB) of file transfer. It has banner ads and pop-up ads on the site. Email accounts, CGI, and ASP are not available. It only gives users FTP access.
Host #2
Brinkster gives users four different solutions. The General is free. It has redundant Web servers, 30 MB of web space, no email accounts and the web based file manager. The General SE is $3.95 a month. It has redundant web servers, 30 MB of web space, no email accounts, FTP. The Premium F4 costs $12.95 a month. It has a single web server 60 MB of web space, 25 email accounts, FTP use, and MS FrontPage 2002. The Premium X4 costs $12.95 a month. It has redundant web servers, 60 MB of web space, 25 email accounts, ASP 3.0, and 25 components.
Host #3
Angelfire is a free host that has 20 MB of disk space, page design templates, free images, and FrontPage availability. The Angelfire Plus costs $4.95 a month. It has 25 MB of disk space, web folders, file sharing, and no ads. Angelfire Plus members can add extra disk space.
Host #4
Finally, the TSU web server is absolutely free. It offers 20 MB of web space, free images, and unlimited bandwidth.
Conclusion
Although I used the Fortune City host, I recommend Brinkster and select the Premium F4 package. It can be designed with Microsoft FrontPage, has reasonable disk space, gives the use of your own domain, and has 25 email accounts.
